The move is a relief to residents who use the pathways under the overpass who are often the target of robbers.

The lights when fixed will illuminate the hideouts of the robbers who attack and rob passersby of their valuables.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Municipality, Mr. Boye Laryea gave the hint during a tour of some areas during the ‘Operation Clean Your Frontage’ exercise on Thursday.

The MCE decried the practice where people paste posters on paintings meant to beautify the Municipality. He said such offenders will be prosecuted.

At Achimota, over ten chop bar attendants were summoned for court for breaching sanitation by-laws of the Assembly. The tour also took Mr. Laryea to the Naa Densua Plaza where the Assembly is enforcing its bye laws by arresting commercial drivers who flout the ‘no parking, no stopping and no loading directive’.

Addressing a community engagement as part of the tour, the MCE said plans are underway to construct a metal footbridge on the Abeka-Lapaz stretch of the George Walker Bush Highway (N1).

He warned that people who would invade the site to steal materials meant for the project will not be spared. Hon. Laryea assured that the Assembly will engage the community before the takeoff of the project.

Earlier, Mr. Boniface Ashalley, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, said the exercise will see several areas in the Municipality weeded, gutters desilted with heaps of refuse sitting at various places collected.

In all, some thirty personnel drawn from Zoomlion /YEA, Assembly labourers and some volunteers took part in the exercise expected to highlight the need to ensure environmental cleanliness.
