Okaikwei North Assembly staff to get houses

Plans are afoot for the provision of residential apartments for staff of the Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly (ONMA) in the Greater Accra Region.

Aside from that, the Assembly is also set to construct a state-of-the-art office complex for its staff to facilitate their work.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive, Boye Laryea, the projects are part of the Assembly's elaborate plan to roll out key projects this year.

In an address delivered at the Assembly's General Assembly in Accra, he said in 2020 a total of 38 projects some completed and others currently at various stages of completion with funding from among others the District Assembly Common Fund and Internally Generated Funds (IGF) were embarked upon.

Mr. Laryea said the Assembly under the Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance Programme continued routine and periodic maintenance activities and construction of culverts and drainages in the Municipality.

On health and the impact of COVID-19 on the operations of the Assembly, the MCE disclosed that capacity building training programs were organized for Community Health nurses, private facilities as well as District Case Managers on COVID-19, contact tracing, data sampling among others.

He said a total of 2,181 contacts were traced with 606 out of the number testing positive for COVID while 8 of the 19 school suspected case of the disease tested positive.

The MCE noted that in the year under review, eligible Children in the Municipality benefited from the two-round polio vaccination exercise organised in September and October in 2020.

On the social welfare needs of the Municipality, Mr Laryea indicated that 110 child right protection issues were recorded with 76 being child maintenance, 9 on access, 7 on custody, 8 on family welfare and one case on paternity.

He disclosed that eight out of the twelve cases of missing children reported at the Tesano Police Station and DOVVSU have been reunited with their families with the remaining four at a shelter for abused children.

Mr. Laryea said 6,045 children from 23 public schools in the Municipality are beneficiaries of the government's school feeding programme.

On sanitation, 125 Court summons were served on errant residents for various offences while 46 toilets were constructed under the GAMA project and 100 dustbins distributed to shop owners at ONMA's Central Business District, Lapaz.

For her part Mrs. Theresa Lardi Awuni, Member of Parliament, (MP) for Okaikwei North Constituency said the Assembly and her office would work together to achieve the vision of President Nana Akufo-Addo for the Municipality.

She said her doors are always opened to the Assembly in respect of whatever plans, programs and policies it seeks to spearhead in order to develop the Municipality.

"I want to assure you; as your Member of Parliament, I am here to work hand in hand with you.

The political atmosphere out there is enough, people are looking up to the Assembly to be non-partisan to enable the President's vision for each Municipality to come through" she noted.

The Okaikwei North MP added: "I am assuring you that my doors are always opened, as you know i am here to also help the visiion of the president in the Municipality to come to light. It can only come through if we work hand in hand. "

She urged the Assembly members to lead the development agenda in their various Electoral areas.

The MCE presented the Assembly cloth to Mrs. Awuni to officially welcome her to the Assembly since her election in the December polls.
