One major issue that impede rapid development in the Upper Manya Krobo District is the poor road network. The people have lived with this unfortunate situation for years and recently heaved a sigh of relief when the 62 kilometer road project was awarded to contract.
Little did they know, that the project which is being executed by Marripoma Company Limited under the supervision of the Ghana Highway Authority and expected to be completed in two and half years, would be deserted. The road would receive bituminous surfacing, construction of bridges, culverts and drains.
The road users have expressed shock and dismay at the contractor’s sudden abandonment of work and wondering what could have caused that. They said the current state of the road has rather worsen their woes as it has deteriorated the more with the development of more potholes and gully gutters. They therefore appealed to the government to as a matter of agency bring back the contractor on site to complete the work.
On his side, the Upper Manya Krobo District Chief Executive, Joe Sam said President Akuffo Addo’s led administration is aware of the numerous challenges confronting the district which the poor road network is no exception. He said the construction of Koforidua – Asesewa and several other roads in the district is to help make it easy for farm produce get to market centers since the settlers are predominately farmers and also to open up the place for development to attract investors. Mr Sam said it is against this background that periodic reshaping works are done on most of the roads to make them motorable. He appealed to the road users to exercise restraint as he contacts the awarding authorities to bring back the contractor on site.
