He asserts that since the departure from handing over money to ensuring PWDs are economically empowered, over two thousand of such individuals have benefited from their percentage share of the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF).

He said they have been providing them with income generating equipment; and where necessary, they are put into groups and empowered.

A example is a group of about 8 of them at Gomoa Damang who have been built electric corn mill to take undertake that business in the community. He said because of this, the PWDs in that area no longer benefit from the fund because there is an income generating venture for them.

So depending on the business an individual apply to embark on, the Assembly steps in with the necessary equipment; so some also received deep freezers, sewing machines, hair dryers among others.

Those with health issues have not been left out as they are supported to access treatments for their ailments. The same goes for PWDs pursuing various educational interests.

A unique feature of their disbursement is said is the fact that instead of allowing beneficiaries to come to the Assembly for their equipment, they are allowed to stay in their communities and the Assembly rather presents the items to them there to save them from incurring any extra fee.

The DCE thus urged all persons living with some form of disability who are not yet beneficiaries of the district Assembly Common Fund to liaise with the Assembly to get registered, adding that even if they cannot come to the assembly, they should get others to help them register.
