Twifo Atti-Morkwa named among best performing districts

Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, Chief Executive of the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, has encouraged the staff and people to continue to give off their best to consolodat the progress made so far.

Mr. Nyantakyi at the first Ordinary General Assembly meeting told the people that district is doing well in all its developmental programmes and had therefore been declared as the 6th Best Performing District among the Twenty three (23) Districts in the Central Region.

On education, he disclosed that there were some improvements in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) results with 87% scoring within aggregate 6-32. He also said information made available to him indicates that, there was a 96% and 92% score in French and Mathematics respectively, out of the number of pupils that took the 2018 BECE.

He also said that the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection had conducted a feasibility study in order to expand the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) exercise. He added that fifteen (15) communities had been added to the already existing twenty (20), bringing the number to thirty-five (35) beneficiary communities.

The number of beneficiary households had also therefore increased from Three Hundred and Seventy-three (373) to Five Hundred and Forty-two (542) households. This in turn increases the allocated amount from Two-six Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty-two Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 26, 422.00) to Forty-one Thousand and Twelve Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 41, 012.00).

He mentioned to the house that, the Assembly in collaboration with Nyonkopa Cocoa Purchasing Company in the district with its International Partners have selected Esuekyir to implement a child labor program. Under this programme, One Hundred (100) school children had been selected to benefit from a pot of meal a day, for two (2) years.

He added that the NGO had already distributed One Hundred (100) pieces of school bags, One Hundred (100) school uniforms, One Hundred (100) pairs of shoes among others. The NGO is also said to have distributed fifteen (15) pieces of Solar Lamps to selected households and drilled one (1) bore-hole for the community. He appreciated the gesture.
