This was made known when the District Environmental Health officer, Madam Evelyn Nani and some officials from the District office paid a working visit to the Plastic Punch collection site in Prampram.

Mr. Quarcoo mentioned that today’s activity is part of a three-month project which is a citizen science activity being carried out by the BRS convention which is a project under the United Nations Environmental Programme which will be owned by the Ministry of Environment Science and Technology.

This is a pilot activity and after the piloting the ministry owns the project. He further revealed that “we can decide to go for a ban on the use of plastics but we need to think about what the alternatives are. Are we producing other jobs and these are things that are achievable? We want to make Ningo-Prampram a model community for the rest of Ghana and definitely collective actions will help achieve this together.”

Also, he made known some brands identified along the beach when they began the day’s activity. The brands were Bel Aqua drinking water, Bel drinks (breeze, tropical, apple and squeeze), Bel cola, Voltic mineral water, Beta malt and kasapreko products.

Plastic Punch is a non-profit organization in Ghana founded with the mission to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic for the environment, wildlife and humans, and to provide innovative and sustainable waste management solutions.
