DCE appeals to youth not to adulterate Ghanaian culture

The District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, has urged the youth to ensure that "our rich traditions and cultural value are upheld and sustained".

She made this call on Tuesday at the Zone B District Performance Art and Cultural Festival at Breman-Asikuma.

The Programme under the theme "NAFAC: Promoting Unity, Technology and Wealth Creation for a better Ghana" is being organized to select a team to represent the region in the forthcoming NAFAC to held in Tamale from November 20-27 2010.

Participants in this zone came from Agona East, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB), Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam, Assin South districts and Assin North Municipality.

Mrs Aboah reminded the participants that they served as the vanguard to ensure that the rich Ghanaian culture was not adulterated with foreign culture with the coming of modern technology.

She said the culture of the people contributed to the development of the nation and therefore expressed the hope that the disciplines being exhibited by the groups that include fotomfrom, music and dancing, culture display, brass band music had come to stay.

Mrs Aboah also appealed to wood carvers to ensure that the trees they cut for their handicraft are replaced to ensure that they remain in business and protect the environment
Mr Emmanuel Akortsu, the Central Regional Acting Director of the Centre for National Culture, called on participating groups to focus on skill training and job creation through the medium of arts and culture.


He appealed to corporate bodies in the region to support the programme.
