He said the NPP government is confident of building a Ghana which appears to the use of its own resources; build an economy that is not dependent on charity and handouts, but an economy that will look at the proper management of its resources as the way to engineer social and economic growth in our country.

He reiterated that the slogan is thus aimed at preparing the entire nation to be in full charge of its own affairs in order to gain the necessary respect and dignity it deserves among its peer countries.

The MCE, who was speaking at this year’s 6th March celebration on Theme: “Ghana Beyond Aid”, expressed buoyancy that the vision by the government for Ghana to move beyond Aid is doable and therefore called on all to embrace it and offer the needed support.

He boasted that, the Akufo-Addo led administration has started on the right path with concrete steps being put in place to restore fiscal discipline, macro-economic stability and economic growth, whiles fiscal consolidation has also taken hold, adding that, these were all clear indication that the government is committed to achieving its set objectives.

Corruption

Touching on corruption, The MCE stated that, government is bent on winning the fight against corruption which continues to hold back development as a country. He said corruption had no partisan colour; hence all must help protect the public purse.

He noted that, with the appointment of the Special Prosecutor (SP), Ghanaians can now expect more prosecutions for corrupt practices in coming months, since public officials both present and past would be held accountable for their actions.

Security

Government has also assured it will do everything possible to ensure that citizens are able to go about their daily activities in the confidence that they are safe.

The MCE, who was commenting on recent spate of armed robberies in the country, said the government, will do whatever it takes to resource the police to enable them discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.

He further asked for support for the police, adding that the police need the help and support of every citizen to be able to do their work.

“We dare not lose our reputation as a haven of peace and security. I urge you all to join in making sure there is no hiding place in our midst of those who would disturb our peace” the MCE added.
