Akufo-Addo Increases Cocoa Price By 28 Percent

President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced a new cocoa producer price for the 2020/2021 cocoa season.

The Price of Cocoa has been increased from Ghc514 per bag to GHS660.

President Akuffo-Addo announced this at Sefwi Wiawso in the Regional Capital of Western North Regional during the launching of the National Cocoa Rehabilitation Programme.

The new Cocoa producer price as announced is expected to beginning from 1st October 2020 cocoa season.

“I will like to take advantage of this historic event at the launch of the National Cocoa Rehabilitation program to announce a new cocoa price for our galant farmers for the coming 2020/2021 season.”

The current 2019/2020 producer price of Ghc8420 per metric tonnes ie Ghc515 per bag was an 8.2% increase over the 2018/2019 price of Ghc7615 that is Ghc475 per bag.

He said, the new price is expected to take effect from 1st October 2020 this year, I’m happy to announce the award of a new cocoa producer price of Ghc10,560 per metric tonnes which is Ghc660 per bag for the coming 2020/2021 cocoa season”. The President announced.

He stated that, the new price came as a package to relief cocoa farmers from their lots and also motive the youth to venture into cocoa farming so as to increase cocoa production in Ghana.

He therefore called on the constituents to renwned him and his Parliamentary Candidates within the Western North Region mandate come December 7 in order to transform Ghana.

Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area and the chairman for the occasion commended the Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP government for their prudent policies.

He mentioned for instance, the creation of the new regions which has brought a lot development in the regions, the introduction of Zipline to address heath emergencies cases and the hike in Cocoa price for the next crop season.

The farmers who could not hide their joy of this increment hits the streets of Sefwi Wiawso for jubilations and vowed give another four year term to NPP government for their tremendous achievements within the period of three and a half in power.
