Road Minister admonishes contractors to desist from shoddy works

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Akwasi Amoako Attah has advised contractors working on the various road projects, to desist from doing shoddy works.

He said the projects were special and important and must, therefore stand the test of time for generations unborn to benefit.

The Minister also charged the stakeholders and consultants to effectively monitor the projects and ensure that quality and quantity materials were been used for the projects to meet its life expands.

The government cannot use taxpayers' money to pay any contractor with shoddy work. He stressed.

Mr Amoako Attah, made the call during a press briefing at Sefwi Wiawso on Saturday, to provide an update on the ongoing roads projects in the region after the President Akufo-Addo had inspected the various site to the ascertain progress of work on some ongoing roads projects and also cuts sod for the commencement of new roads projects within the region as part of the President’s three days visit to the Western North Region.

Some of the projects inspected include the ongoing Sefwi Wiawso to Akotombra, Bodi-Ahebianso road, Benchemaa Nkwanta – Osei Kojokrom road, and Bibiani town roads.

The rest were cut sod ceremony for the construction of Akontombra-Dadieso and Enchi-Elubo roads.



He indicated that the region has a total road network size of about 3,745kilometers, out of that thirty-three (33) are currently under construction in different communities within the Region whilst his outfit is planning to award another thirty-eight (38) more roads projects to help solve bad nature of roads in the area.

Mr. Amoako Attah expressed satisfaction of work done so far after the inspection apart from a few contractors who were reported to have left the project site due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He, therefore, tasked the Regional Highways Engineers to ensure periodic move to have a first-hand information and also to access the performance of the contractors on our roads projects’’ he added.

He hinted that funds are secured to complete all the road projects which have been started in the new region to fulfill the campaign promise made to the Ghanaians during 2016.

Mr Amoako Attah however appealed to good people of Western North Region to reciprocate in the December general elections to retain the Nana Akufo-Addo in government to continue with his good vision for the country.
