They described the officials as insensitive to their plights following the early morning exercise that did not offer most of them the opportunity to salvage their wears before the exercise began.
To many of them, but for their colleagues who informed them that an exercise of that nature was ongoing they would not have gotten the opportunity to rush down to take control of their containers and few items.
The traders and other occupants of the area contend that they were not given any official prior notice for the demolition just that the assembly guards who visit there usual make passing comments that they would be moved soon.
With bulldozers busy at work, structures mostly wooden, and containers were wrecked into pieces while people crisscrossed the place trying to move their containers or items before it gets to their turn.
Meanwhile, a member of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Fred Amankwa said the entire area is under the control of the GPRTU, and they (GPRTU) offered the places to the traders to do their business.
He said the Assembly duly informed them (GPRTU) a couple of times, and the latest was last two Monday which also elapsed, hence they were unaware the exercise would be held today.
The traders urged the Assembly to offer them a place near the new market to ply their trade as well as the GPRTU.
To them the great problem is that current economic hardship would become unbearable to them if they do not get a place to continue their businesses.
Even though officials of the Assembly refused to speak on the exercise, Ghanadistricts.com is duly aware of an ongoing works to dualize the Atomic Down -Haatso-Atomic Roundabout which resulted in similar demolishing exercise along the stretch of the road.
The Assembly Member for the area, Cornelius Kwadwo Baffour affirmed this when he revealed that the demolishing exercise is in respect of the road construction as well as plans to construct a court complex for the municipality.
