Mampong inaugurates 2020 Census Implementation Committee

The Mampong Municipal Census Implementation Committee has been duly inaugurated to oversee the 2020 Population and Housing Census within the Mampong Municipality.

The committee of 8 members is made up of the Municipal Statistical officer, Mr. John Okyere who doubles as the Chairman, Representative from the Traditional Council, the Municipal Coordinating Director, the Municipal Planning Officer, Municipal NCCE Director, Municipal Director of Education, Municipal Health Director and the Municipal Information Officer. The committee was tasked with the recruitment of field personnel and other logistics as may be needed

Thomas Appiah MCE for Mampong Municipal Assembly led the Inauguration Ceremony and was ably assisted by Mr. Kobina Ansah Abaka, the Ashanti Regional Statistician. The MCE advised the committee members to put the interest Ghana first in the performance of their duties and recruit personnel on merit. He again asked them to ensure massive public participation and co-operation.

The MCE was of the view that, a good Population and Housing Census will help the country’s Data for development and planning purposes and the equal distribution and allocation of National Resources.

Mr. Kobina Ansah Abaka debunked the idea that the purpose of the exercise is to help the government in the collection of taxes. When asked about the names of persons that have gone viral on social media purported to have been recruited, the Ashanti Regional Statistician asked all and sundry to treat it with all the contempt it deserves since the recruitment exercise will be done by the 8 member committee.
