Veep commissions projects at mampong

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has projects which form part of the One-District One-Warehouse and Free S.H.S policies in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The projects include a warehouse for grains at Asaam, a 200 bed capacity dormitory and a 12-classroom storey-building at St. Monica’s Senior High School.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stated that the government has the focus to build a Ghana beyond aid and as part of this policies, the free S.H.S was introduced to enhance the agenda. He said that this policy has benefitted a lot of students in the country.

He emphasized that as a result of the double-track system, 1.2 million students can now access the free S.H.S policy as compared to the previous arrangement.


He also stated that they are in the process of building infrastructures to support the policy and solve the infrastructure deficit, and very soon the double track system will not be used anymore as it is their hope that with this infrastructure in place all students can benefit from the free S.H.S policy without any difficulty.

He said that the government has come up with ideas to transform agriculture, the education of this country, digitize and modernize the economy and strengthen the health system and that they have made arrangements to build an integrated bauxite and aluminum industry for the country and also the same for iron and steel.

The Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong, Daasebere Osei Bonsu II, in his address assured the government that he is prepared to provide an acre of land for the construction of a Municipal High Court within the Municipality.


He entreated the government to do their best and grant them this request. He also stated that he very much appreciate of the government’s commitment to improve the school projects by increasing classrooms and dormitories to supplement the free S.H.S in the institution.

He further stated that he would appreciate it if the University of Education, Winneba campus in Mampong can be transformed into the University of Mampong.


Delivering the welcome address, the Headmistress of St. Monica’s S.H.S, Mrs. Esther Ntodwah stated that, they are grateful to the government for the provision of 200 bed capacity dormitory and 12 – unit classroom block.

She however said they would like the government to provide them with a multi- purpose assembly hall, a 33-seater bus and support them to complete the teachers’ bungalow that has already been started by the PTA.


She pointed out that, the institution has been able to produce thousands of renowned personalities in the country. Among them are the first female Chief of Staff, Hon. Frema Osei Opare, Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, first female Chancellor of KNUST and several others. She stated that the free S.H.S has been of great help to many female students.
