More PWDs receive support for economic improvement

An amount of GH¢1.2 billion was disbursed to some persons with various forms of disability in the Oforikrom Municipality.

In all, 49 PWDs (34 males and 15 females) benefited from the disability fund in the Oforikrom Municipality.

Mr. Temmah Gambrah, the Municipal Chief Executive who presented the items advised the beneficiaries to make absolute use of the items to generate income for their daily expenses. It is to this, that she indicated that there would be effective monitoring of these items to ensure that the beneficiaries do not mishandle them.

The Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Marfo said, the government seeks to eliminate persons with disability begging along the streets thus, the need to support them financially.



Miss Mary Serwaa Adjen, the Head of Social Development Department indicated that previously, the monies were disbursed to beneficiaries in cash however, that didn’t really help since they returned to the streets after some time.

It was to this effect that the government now deems it more appropriate to provide a livelihood to persons with disability through the provision of working tools or capital for any business of their convenience.



The items ranged from deep freezers, industrial and knitting machines, a medium-sized container, supply and installation of electricity, grilling machine, popcorn machine, fufu pounding machines, milling machines, assorted materials, and tools, and assorted provisions.

The rest were cheques to settle some medical bills and transportation fees for treatment.
