OFORIKROM: MCE advices PWDs to make good use of economic support items

The Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive, Abraham Antwi has called on the beneficiaries of the Disability Fund within the municipality to make good use of items given to them in order to generate income to support themselves and their families.

He made this call during a presentation ceremony organized by the Assembly on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, to distribute items and start-up capital to twenty-four (24) Persons with Disabilities whose requests were vetted and approved by the Disability Fund Management Committee at the Oforikrom Taxi Rank.

He further thanked the government for its enormous support over the years in aiding the Assembly exercising this mandate.

He added that government through the fund will continue to give hope to people living with disability. “I thank the government for supporting us always and I will also plead that the money released should be increased to enable the Assembly reach out to more people with disability”, he said.

The Assembly Member for Aprade electoral area who doubles as the Chairman for the Disability Fund Management Committee, Hon. Kwame Owusu Bampoe reiterated the MCE’s call to the beneficiaries to make good use of items given to them and also cautioned the general public on the need to respect the right and dignity of persons living with disability and treat them as such.

The Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Miss Mary Serwaa Adjen specially thanked the Head Pastor of the Christ Holy Fire Chapel, Rev. Moses Anointing, for his support during the presentation.

The pastor on behalf of his church gave an amount of money to a disabled gentleman, Brother Godfred, to support his education. Some Assembly Members and Staff of the Assembly also donated undisclosed sums of money to the young man.

Items worth GH¢49, 909.24 were distributed. They included; Deep Freezers, Table top chest freezer, Fufu Pounding Machine, Start-Up Capitals, Medical Support, One second clothing, industrial sewing machine, plastic chairs, yoghurt items and cost of training of fresh yoghurt for 60 PWDs including taxes paid on all the items.
