The ALP is a Government’s flagship programme aimed at curbing the adverse effect of the activities of illegal mining (galamsey) by replacing it with dependable and viable alternative livelihood activities in the areas of agriculture production, vocational and technical skills as sources of income for the sustainable lives of the youth.
The beneficiaries were supported with items like burner stove with oven, hairdryer, soap making packaging machine, beads & many other accessories in facilitating their trades in soap making, flour confectionery, beadworks & hairdressing.
The District Coordinating Director, Mr. Philip Yaw Oppong, who presented the items on behalf of the District Chief Executive (DCE), stated that Amansie West is one of the beneficiary mining districts across the country who through the programme, has so far benefited from the training of thirty-five (35) beneficiaries on the institutional level training at Agona & Kwamo TVET institutions.
He urged the beneficiaries present to make sure the tools given to them will help facilitate their chosen trades that will help generate some income for their upkeep and welfare of their dependents as well.
Mr.Yaw Oppong added that there will be monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the support extended to them, to inform the government to either add on or support others who are in the pool to be supported.
