Mampong Assembly holds first ordinary Meeting

The Mampong Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, 22nd September 2020 held its First Ordinary meeting of the First Section of the Fifth Assembly at Mampong.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Thomas Appiah Kubi touched on the various sectors as he addressed the gathering.

On health, the MCE stated that the municipality, like others, has suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic which resulted in lockdowns and some restrictions.

He further said that the Assembly had done well in ensuring the safety of the people in the municipality by ensuring that all Covid-19 protocols and measures were observed by the people.

He pointed out that the Assembly distributed a number of personal protective equipment (PPEs) in a bid to help contain the spread of the virus.



These include 300 veronica buckets and taps, 80 veronica bucket stands, 300 basins, and hand washes, 220 dustbins, 300 tissue, and paper towels.

Others are 600 liquid soaps, 10,318 hand sanitizers, 22,440 nose masks, 10 thermometer guns, and 7 megaphones for awareness creation and adherence of the preventive measures to hospitals and health centers, schools, communities, transport unions, and government offices. In addition, the free water supply and electricity policy were also ensured within the Municipality.

He also said that the just-ended Polio immunization exercise for children under the age of 5 years was successful and further added that those who could not partake in the exercise will be given the opportunity to be immunized and urged parents to avail their children for the second phase of the exercise in early next month. He disclosed that 19,334 children out of the target of 21,425 which represent about 90.2% were immunized.

On education and youth development, he stated that a number of measures have been put in place to prepare the students and the youth for their development.

He explained that the programme dubbed ‘Ghana Learning Radio Reading Programme’ is broadcasted on GBC Radio channels to help the students who are yet to resume school in their learning activities.

He expressed the hope that all the students who wrote their final examinations (BECE & WASSCE) would pass successfully.

He further pointed out that a list of 55 names has been submitted to the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the NYA by the Mampong National Youth Authority (NYA) to be trained for the Youth Parliament Programme. The list included students in J.H.S & S.H.S, youth groups, assembly members, the physically challenged, and others who fall between the ages of 15 – 35 years within the Municipality. In addition, the underprivileged has also been enrolled in apprenticeship training to cater for their future.



Speaking on the registration for Ghana Card and the compilation of new voter register, Hon. Appiah Kubi stated that 57,688 people registered for the Ghana Card of which 47,838 cards were printed and 9,850 cards are yet to be printed.

He stressed that the Assembly has provided a permanent office for the National Identification Authority (NIA) for this exercise to continue. Also, he stated that the voters’ registration exercise was conducted successfully and saw a total number of 63,111 people registered as voters in the Municipality. He stressed that the Election Taskforce are ready to ensure free and fair general elections in the Municipality.

On finance, he stated that the Assembly faces problems with funds, especially Internally Generated Fund (IGF), due to the Covid-19 pandemic and hinted that the said funds delayed development projects within the Municipality.

On the Executive Committee report of the Assembly, the MCE said that due to complaints pertaining to information centers and drinking bars, the Assembly has put measures in place to curb all unauthorized operations and noise-making, and also solve sanitation issues within the municipality.

He also pointed out that the Assembly has made arrangements to continue the free distribution of oil palm and cashew seedlings under the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) to boost Agric sector.

On his part, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Francis Owusu-Ansah stated that the 2021 Annual Action Plan is the same as the 2020 Action Plan due to the inability of the Assembly to complete the projects earmarked for the year, explaining that the President has given the assemblies directives to complete all ongoing projects before undertaking new ones.



The Municipal Budget Analyst, Mr. Emmanuel Arthur Osei, under the Annual Composite Budget for the year 2021, explained the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and Programmes and Projects by sectors.

On IGF, he mentioned that the total revenue in Mampong as at July 2020 was GH¢564.467.73 and the total revenue estimated for 2021 is GH¢ 1,544,726.00.

On Programmes and Projects by sectors, he said the estimated cost is GH¢5,624,083.08.

Members of the house also adopted a fee-fixing resolution on the Information Centre Operators and agreed that operators pay GH¢200.00 as a registration fee and pay the operational fee with effect from next year.
