The District Moved from 179 in 2016 to 102 in 2017 in the new District League rankings.
This according to her "the development is a huge step in the right direction". She was however, hopeful that the district would improve much better in the 2018 chart "considering the significant measures it is putting in place in terms of education, health, sanitation and the rural water system".
The District League Table is produced annually by UNICEF Ghana and CDD Ghana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Office of the Head of Local Government Service as a simple ranking tool to determine the level of development in the various Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies.
She said the DTL focuses on the level of the Districts welbeing in six key sectors: health, education, sanitation, water, security and governance rather than rating Districts by administrative compliance.
She also added that "the District League Table aims at increasing social accountability for development across the country so as to improve state responsiveness in development and service delivery.
It also aims to support Government in better understanding and monitoring development across the country and to support citizen’s access to information and knowledge on rights on development in their Districts".
Mrs. Murtaza also lauded the Brong Ahafo Region for maintaining its 2016 position of third out of the 10 regions of Ghana but was quick to add that "I wish the region can do better by finishing 1st or 2nd next year".
She also urged the Assemblies as well as stakeholders in the district to increase its sensitization exercises especially in the field of sanitation.
