West Akim Municipal supports Persons with Disability

The West Akim Municipal Assembly has honoured its quest to empowering persons with disability (PWDs) in the municipality to be economically self-reliance.

This came to light when Mr Seth Oduro Boadu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) presented items to the PWDs at Asamankese in the Eastern Region.

Speaking at the gathering, Mr Oduro Boadu stated that he is ‘’highly enthused because the program was aimed at resourcing our fathers, ,mothers, sisters, brothers and children affected by one form of disability or the other to make them self-sufficient’’.

The MCE furthermore commended the Disability Fund Management Committee for their efforts and also the support provided based on the needs assessment conducted by the disability fund management Committee with an average amount of GHC 800.00. “Again it’s worth noting that, some beneficiaries had above the average amount and some had below the average amount.”



The MCE, used the occasion to education them about the conscious of the disparities and will factor that into their future support for beneficiaries by the assembly.

He said a total of 280 people were interviewed with 215 members qualifying for support.

The support included; Provision of business namely: bags of rice, boxes of key soap, boxes of Malt and milk, boxes of cowbel and many more. Those in the block manufacturing business were presented with 2 wheelbarrows, 2 shovels, I head pan, and 2 block molding equipment (5inches).

Those in the plastic chairs business were given 50 plastic chairs each.



Farming business had 1 Wallington boots, 1 electric spraying machine, 2 boxes of weedicides.

Sachet water business had one 3 in 1 ice chest and hundred bags of sachets water. Others also got fridges, electric and manual sewing machines, items for pastries and Oats business etc.

In a closing remark, Mr Seth Oduro Boadu said there will be mechanism to monitor the utilization to ensure effectiveness and to also make sure that beneficiaries comply with the said directives. “We will ensure every beneficiary who abuses the support is eliminated from future disbursement.”
