Shama District seeks investors to redevelop Fort Sebastian into a major tourism destination
The Shama District Assembly is looking up to the investment community to help redevelop Fort Sebastian into a sort after tourism desdination as a way to boost the local economy and improve employment opportunities.

The District Chief Executive for Shama, Ebenezer Dadzie speaking to Ghanadistricts.com said this is a good time to take advantage to enhance the full potential of the fort into a major tourism destination.
"We want to take advantage of fort Sebastian, it is a very good edifice but it needs to be renovated; and some other things also need to be done, so we are calling for investors to help us renovate".
The DCE admitted that putting the fort in a shape that they envisage will require huge investment and the Assembly alone cannot do it. "We need others to also support us".
He added that the tourism sector is a very good area that investors can venture into since it promises good returns and will inure to the benefit of the local economy.
FORT SEBASTIAN
Fort Saint Sebastian, located in Shama in the Western Region of Ghana was built by the Portugues in 1526.
This fort was estabhllished to serve as a deterrant to English traders competing with the Portuguese slave trade. Between 1640 and 1642 it was captured and rebuilt by the Dutch after falling into disrepair. In 1972 it was ceded to Britain.
