Afigya Kwabre South Assembly to impose penalties on sanitation defaulters

Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly will, as from Monday, September 8, 2025, impose fines on individuals or entities found to be in violation of the waste management rules.

The enactment of the local bye-laws by the Assembly is granted by national legislation on the Local Governance Act 2016 and the measures being undertaken is to address the poor environmental sanitation in the district.

The District Chief Executive, Madam Pearl Patricia Ankrah disclosed this when the Assembly embarked on a clean-up exercise at the weekend at Afrancho She deplored the menace of filth that has engulfed the district with its consequential poor health among the citizens.

Areas of offences include improper waste disposal in public places and homes.

The DCE raised particular concerns over illegal dumping of waste into drains and gutters which causes flooding. She lauded the efforts of Nananom and the Assembly Members from the 27 electoral areas for a successful exercise while she urged the inhabitants to ensure their environment were always kept clean.

Madam Ankrah warned defaulters would be held accountable regardless of who is involved explaining the law must take its course adding, the Assembly would not tolerate or accept pleas from Assembly members, influential individuals or traditional authorities.
