OFFINSO N: 48-year old Nana Due Fofe II Is 2019 District Best Farmer

A 48-year-old farmer Nana Duah II from Akumadan received this year’s award as the 2019 District Best Farmer at the 35th National Farmers’ Day celebration held at Akumadan.

Nana Duah Fofe II was given a certificate, tricycle, knapsack spraying machine, cutlasses, two bags of fertilizer and key soap.

There was a moment of pride for the Sub-chief who has been farming for the past 30 years, producing cocoa, plantain, maze, oil palm, cashew, citrus, yams, beans, among others, when he was pronounced winner of the highest District farmers’ prize.

Addressing his colleague’s farmers at a colourful ceremony at Akumadan, Nana Duah the II attributed his success to hard work, perseverance and the enormous benefits associated with farming.



He encouraged others, especially the youth to develop an interest in agriculture since it is lucrative.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Offinso North Mr. David Kwasi Asare, on his part, congratulated farmers in the area for their industry and selflessness.



With reference to the theme for this year’s celebration ‘Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development', the DCE said the contributions of farmers to the national economy cannot be over-emphasized.

He attributed the successes chalked by Government through programmes like the Planting for Food and Jobs program and Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Under Planting for Food and Jobs, he said farm inputs such as maize, rice, tomato, and cashew seeds, have been subsidized for farmers in a bid to entice more of them into farming.



The District Agric Director, Mr. Edward Boamah commended farmers in the district for their diligence and hard work.

He praised the Government for the introduction of key intervention programs in the agricultural sector. He said he was optimistic that the programs will boost agriculture and increase the country’s export earnings.



The Chief of Asempaneye Nana Kofi Aboagye II who chaired the occasion called on Government to introduce more social intervention programmers that would help farmers to produce enough food to feed the entire nation.

He praised Government for the plethora of programs in the Agric sector. He said the programs are youth-centered so it is imperative for the Government to make the youth aware of the benefits in Agriculture to arouse their interest.



Mr. Adom Frimpong and Mr. Mboranam Yaboo took home the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively, while Madam Cynthia Amakwah was also adjudged the best woman farmer in the district.

In all, 12 farmers were awarded.
