Planting for Food makes impact at Offinso North District

The government's agenda on planting for food and jobs has made an impact in the Offinso North District in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking at the 33rd national farmers' Day celebration for the Offinso North District held at Afrancho under the theme: "Farming for Food and Jobs, the District Chief Executive of the area, David Kwesi Boakye Asare hinted that under the planting for food and jobs policy interventions, farmers are given improved seeds and fertilizers at subsidized price.

Farmers do 50% upfront payment and pay the remaining 50% after harvesting.

He added that under the 2017 programme, one thousand four hundred and forty-one (1,441) farmers within the Offinso North District have been recorded, adding that the assembly intends to increase the number by to hundred percent and advised those who benefited for the programme.

This programme, Mr. David Kwesi Boakye Asare disclosed further that, another policy intervention yet to be introduced is the planting for jobs and investments where MMDCEs have been tasked to capture the economic potentials of their area for aggressive sustainable investments.

The DCE hinted that the Offinso North had selected cashew production as its sustainable crop. He disclosed further that the Offinso North District was well represented in the just ended Ghana Industrial summit and Exhibition fair organised by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) where cashew and tomatoes were highly promoted all in an effort to attract investors to the sectors.

He appealed to the youth in the area to show interest in farming to enable them create employment on their own.
