OFFINSO N: 28 youth graduate in greenhouse training course
A total of 28 young men and women who were recruited into the Akumadan Greenhouse as the first batch trainees to undergo the practical agricultural course at the Greenhouse Village in Offinso North district in the Ashanti region, passed out at a ceremony held at Akumadan.

The graduands comprise 23 males and 5 females, went through intensive training of 3 months course entailing principles of irrigation and fertilizer application, pest management, disease control, soilless media and soil parameter testing, climate control systems, precision Agriculture, agribusiness management, decision-making process, post-harvest technology among others.
With partnership from Ghana's Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and Agritop Project from Israel, under the auspices of Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA), the trainees aged 21 to 35 and had done their mandatory national service after their diploma in Agriculture was selected to undergo the training.
The aim of the state-funded training was to equip the youth to venture into greenhouse farming to drive the economy through the creation of sustainable jobs for the youth.
Speaking at the ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, David Kwasi Asare said that, for the fact that people have been trained ahead of the commissioning of the Centre is a testimony of how important the graduates are to the government and therefore, means that “you must be useful to yourselves and to the country at large.’
On his part, the General Manager of Agritop, Ofer Tamir, assured them that the experts are ever ready to support them to realize their dreams saying, ‘thank you for your 3 months staying with us.’
Mohammed Munkaila, who was adjudged the Overall Best Student, expressed his gratitude to the authority for honoring him saying, ‘I just want to thank our trainers, especially my supervisor, Yayra, for all the advice and encouragement.
The Akumadan Greenhouse is the largest of the 3 in the country. The other two are in the Dowenya in Greater Accra and Bodwease in Central region.
