Mampong Assembly elects new Presiding Member

The Mampong Municipal Assembly on Thursday 23rd January 2020 successfully elected and sworn-in a new Presiding Member (PM), after the inauguration of the 7th Mampong Municipal Assembly.

The election and swearing-in of the presiding member (PM) were held at the Municipal Assembly Hall and it was attended by all the Assembly members including the Municipal Chief Executive, Thomas Appiah Kubi, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Honorable Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong to exercise their franchisee.



The programme began with the approval of language(s) to be used by the assembly which was led by Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Acquaye Derben. The Majority of the house approved English and Twi as the languages to be used for the meetings and deliberations of the Assembly. The programme was handed over to the electoral commission to take charge of elections.

Mr. Kwabena Karikari who is the new head of the Electoral Commission gave a brief insight on how the elections will be held and then introduced Honorable Godwin Anto, the Assemblymember for Yonso who was the only person to pick up the presiding membership form after the close of nomination.



The election went on very smoothly and Honorable Godwin Anto was elected as the new presiding member (PM). A total number of voters was 49, 48 voted YES and only 1 voted NO, which constitute 98% of the total votes cast. He was therefore declared and presented by the electoral commission as the new Presiding Member (PM, and later sworn-in as the new Presiding Member (PM) by His Worship, Godwin Kpogli, the Judge at the Mampong Magistrate Court.

Honorable Godwin Anto addressed the house after been sworn- in as the new elected presiding member (PM). He thanked everyone for making it possible to be part of the elections. Honorable Godwin Anto firstly pointed out that every assembly member must put everything behind and come together for the sake of the development of the Mampong Municipality.



He then pleaded with the honorable assembly members to show much respect to each other which he believes will bring peace and harmony to the office of the assembly.
