Akuapem North Municipality marks “My First Day At School”
The District Chief Executive of Akuapem North Municipal Assembly, Barima Awuah Sarpong Asiedu-Larbi in the company of the GES Director, Madam Elizabeth Annor Korkor on Tuesday 19th January 2021 led a joint delegation to visit selected schools within the Municipality.

The team comprises officers from the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Directorate of Education.
The objective was to welcome and encourage newly admitted KG and Class One pupils to school. Also included in the team were the Planning Officer of GES Mr. Nicholas Kwaku Darko. The PRO Mr. David Agyemang and the Hon. Assembly Member for Mampong Mr. Charles Oheneba.
The visit took the MCE to six selected schools comprising Okuapemman Basic School, Mamfe Presby Primary, Otwetiri M/A Primary, Abenta M/A Primary Obom basic primary, and Mangoase Islamic Arabic Primary School. “My First Day at School” usually is an annual ritual in the educational calendar in Ghana to receive newly admitted to the Kindergarten and Class One stages.
In interacting with both teachers and the pupils at the Okuapemman Basic School, the MCE was elated that the school has been reopened again.
He said education is key to the development of the country and that it would rather hamper the progress of the country in all spheres of life if pupils were kept at home for a long time.
He encouraged the children to inculcate the habit of coming to school always and that nothing should dissuade them from attending school because that is the only way to get them a better job in the future. He advised them to be punctual at school, take their studies seriously, and also be respectful both at home and school.
He submitted that we are no longer in normal times as the Corona Virus is still lingering around. He advised that each and everyone need to develop the habit of handwashing frequently and wear their face mask at all times.
He also cautioned pupils to desist from sharing items such as bowls, spoons, cups, pencils, pens, and the likes with their colleagues in class and at recreation periods. He also appealed to teachers to be a little committed by supervising the activities of the children, especially during contact hours.
Again, at Mangoase Arabic Primary, the MCE was saddened by the deplorable state of the school block and their furniture. He said school facilities and the environment forms part of the tone of every school and that it contributes immensely to the success of any school. He however promised to address the situation before it gets out of hand.
In her submission, the GES Director said teachers should ensure that the school environment is kept spick and span at all times. She emphasized that the teachers were the main players in ensuring that the children kept their school uniforms clean especially in the school.
She pointed out to the teachers to be self-discipline by keeping to handwashing habits and wearing their face masks always so that they could entreat the children to do likewise. He said the government has promised to provide some PPEs to schools and that as soon as they arrived, she would not hesitate but released them for use.
The MCE alongside the GES Director donated school uniforms to some less privileged pupils at Otwetiri and Abenta primary schools. The KG and Class 1 pupils at every school visited each benefited from an Exercise book, a pencil, an eraser, a biscuit, a kalypo drink, and a nose mask. A number of Storybooks were also given to the schools to inculcate the habit of reading in the pupils.
