Due to the bureaucratic process in acquiring building permits from city authorities before erecting structures on lands, some estate developers and land owners take to the latter or adopt dubious means of getting permits without passing through the right channels.
Although this situation is worrying, various warnings by city authorities have yielded less or nothing at all since land owners continue to use dubious ways to obtain improper permits.
In recent times, however, major city authorities have tried to put a stop to several building construction projects and even went further to demolish several hundreds of buildings due to improper permits.
It is in light of this that the Tema Metropolitan Assembly intends to introduce the E-permit system to fast-track the process of obtaining building permits as well as make it more attractive to boost revenue generation for the Assembly.
According to the MCE for the Tema Metropolis during an Assembly meeting, Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten said they believe that the long process of acquiring permit has contributed to the non-acquisition of building permits and subsequent construction of buildings at unauthorized places.
“During the course of the year, we intended to introduce the E-permit system which will facilitate the process of securing building permits on the internet,” he asserted.
