TMA: MCE gears up to make Tema cleanest city
Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten affirmed the Assembly’s commitment of making Tema one of the cleanest cities within the country in a project dubbed ‘Clean Tema’.

Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten affirmed the Assembly’s commitment of making Tema one of the cleanest cities within the country in a project dubbed ‘Clean Tema’.
“While we double up to fix the immediate and recurring challenges of our time, we have to open up to the bigger picture,” he said.
Speaking at the Assembly’s meeting held recently, Mr. Odamtten said the objective of the project is to improve on environmental cleanliness to reflect international standards; a way to ensure clean, safe and healthy environment.
He declared that the project will also help in beautifying the metropolis and improve security.
BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT
According to the MCE, as part of measures to realize this dream, however, the assembly will provide waste bins in the city centers, launch and sustain “Stand for clean Tema” campaign towards appropriate disposal practices, pave road shoulders for beautification and revenue generation and activate disincentives for unsafe and unhealthy environment.
He added that they would also protect the green belt area and increase tree population, keep buffer zones of the main roads, provide banisters for pedestrians’ safety, and brand banisters for beautification and revenue generation.
“Sewerage, sanitation and drainage projects would be prioritized,” he asserted.
BIG EIGHT-CLEAN TEMA
Meanwhile, the MCE in his address earlier on highlighted on the vision of the Assembly for the year 2014 tagged BIG EIGHT-CLEAN TEMA. They include;

4. Markets and parking lots
5. Governance and social support
6. Talent and skill development
7. Tourism and cultural exchanges
8. Infrastructure
