The Mayor for Tema, Mr. Isaac Ashai Odamtten has called on residents within the area to offer their support for the street naming exercise in order to realize the motive behind the exercise as directed by the government.
The government last year gave an 18-months ultimatum to all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to undertake the street naming exercise to improve on their databases as well as improve on revenue generation.
According to the MCE during the Assembly’s meeting, although a considerable number of achievements have so far been chalked, the exercise has slowed down due to apathy on the part of residents.
“I wish to admit that the community sensitization has been slow due to apathy of the community members regarding the programme. I therefore want to use this platform to urge honourable members to assist the Street Address Team (SAT) by organization the communities for the sensitization programme,” he pleaded.
He indicated that the Town and Country Planning Department in conjunction with the Street Address Team (SAT) is spearheading the exercise in the area adding that the Tema Development Corporation also is in the process of providing the SAT with the planning scehemes.
Mr. Odamtten again revealed that renovation of a dedicated office as well as the procurement of basic equipment for the SAT team is on-going adding that the auto photos and maps which were very important tools for the exercise have already been acquired.
“Some of the equipment will be provided by the Ministry of Government and Rural Development,” he assured.
