Mrs Jane Sabina Obeng, Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Director of Education, has advised students to move away from stereo-type knowledge to imaginative and innovative learning habits.

She said this would enable them to know the principles of “why” and not “how,” in learning by reasoning approach.

Mrs Obeng gave the advice during the finals of the Spelling Bee Competition organized for Primary and Junior High Schools at the premises of Prince Boateng Memorial Institute at Nsawam.

Nana Osae Djan JHS came first followed by Bishop Atto L/A and Good Foundation as second and third respectively, while at the primary level, Ebenezer Preparatory School took the first position, with Al-Rahji Islamic placing second.

The Municipal Education Director said correct spelling was the basic antidote to poor examination performance and that with the re-kindling of spelling competition, students and pupils would cultivate good reading habits to improve their academic pursuits.

She reminded students that they were not only learning to write or pass examinations, but for life, and should, therefore, develop wide range of ideas.

Mrs Obeng expressed gratitude to the organisers of the competition, and congratulated the teachers who prepared the contestants.

She advised the school children who participated in the programme to take Spelling Bee serious to improve on their learning.

Miss Victoria Martey, Municipal Co-ordinator of the Ghana Education Service, gave the assurance that the competition was not going to be a nine-day wonder but it would be sustained to improve teaching and learning in the area.
