Mr Mark Dompreh Amoako, Chief Executive of the Akuapim South Municipal Assembly has called on the chiefs and people of the newly created Akuapim South District with Aburi as its capital to support the government’s good intention of creating the new district.
The chief executive who made the call at the inauguration of the new district commended the chiefs and people for their interest and zeal towards the coming new district and urged them to sustain it with goodwill. ”Support the authorities of the Assembly; do not allow your expectations cause any anxiety and disillusions”, he added.
To this end, he appealed to the chiefs and land owners to donate land for building offices and residential accommodation. He said “cash is the life blood of every organization”, however, there is no serious weekly market in the new district to derive revenue but noted that immovable properties abounds in the district which if property owners should pay their property rate will give the assembly enough revenue to thrive well.
In a speech read on his behalf by senior advisor to the president, Mrs. Christiana Amoako Nuamah, President John Evans Atta Mills said the creation of the new districts is meant to deepen the decentralization process and bring decision –making process closer to the grassroots.
He said the event is a fulfillment of 2008 manifesto promise to institute measures to strengthen and improve decentralization. However, the fundamental of all is to ensure accelerated development in these areas to as away of improving the lives of the people.
