Established some three years ago to facilitate skills training and capacity building for the youth and people of the East Gonja district, Sakpalua Skills Training Centre still operates but struggles with required tutors to conduct training at the centre.

The centre is under the care of Presbyterian Farmers’ Training and Child Development Programme (PFT-CDP), a Tamale-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) engaged in social interventions to enhance the livelihood of the people.

This was brought to the fore during a sensitization forum for PFT-CDP stakeholders in Tamale aimed at bringing the stakeholders together to speed, the projects of PFT-CDP and to inform them of the need to take ownership of them to ensure sustainability.

The Programmes Officer of PFT-CDP, Mr Edward Abanga said if the centre is operational, it would stop or reduce rural-urban migration of the youth in search of non-existent greener pastures.

However he said, it could not afford the salaries of tutors which were posing serious challenges in efforts to maintain qualified tutors at the centre.

The project areas capture education, health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, and child protection.
