E GONJA:District needs SHS to promote quality education

Mr. Alhassan Mumuni, Member of Parliament for Salaga North in the East Gonja District, has appealed to government through the Ministry of Education to consider establishing a Senior High School in the area as part of the 200 Community Day SHS project promised by government.

This he said is to enable it absorb the overwhelming pupils who graduate each year from the Junior High Schools(JHS).

The MP was speaking at the 56th Independence Day celebration themed: “Partner and Innovation for Building a New and a Better Ghana” at Kpalbe.

About 45 percent of students from the Junior High Schools in Salaga North end their education abruptly due to non-existence of Senior High Schools (JHS), the MP for the area said.

He said although the nine JHSs in the electoral area train and educate many students every year, however, only a hand full progressed to the other levels of education.

He therefore stressed that as part of effort to demonstrate its preparedness to host and support the new SHS, a chief in the area had promised a land whiles plans were far advanced to launch an initiative called Salaga North Endowment Fund in early April, 2013 to support brilliant but needy students.

He pledged to provide seed money of GH¢ 5,000, adding that the MP’s 30% share of the District Assembly Common Fund would be dedicated to the growth of the endowment Fund.
