The construction of the 120-bed Bekwai District Hospital is progressing steadily after the President, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, cut the sod in April this year.

The project, made up emergency and accident units, mobile ambulance, surgical, X-ray, obstetrics and gynaecology departments, a well furnished pharmacy section and mortuary, is expected to be ready by May 2012.

The $16 million project, funded by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Bank for International Development, African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Ghana, is being executed by Italian contractors Consar Company Limited.

The Managing Director of Consar, Mr. Stefano Ramela Pezza, has given the assurance that in spite of challenges, the project would be completed next year.
