The call is hinged on the Assembly’s comprehensive strategy to make sure every community is provided with a toilet to address the longstanding problem of open defecation, which poses a serious sanitation threat.

Mr Alexander Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said this at the commissioning of a 20-seater water closet at Dampong, built by a native of the community, Mr George Baah.

This is expected to open the way for more partnerships with private individuals in the coming years, he said.

The Assembly has already expressed its preparedness to facilitate the construction of such facilities by any individual under a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement.

The Municipal Assembly has many projects to execute in about 200 communities with its little resources and so allowing private sector participation was imperative.

Mr Frimpong, therefore, said the BOT arrangement was the right way to go in the provision of decent places of convenience for communities and for the mutual benefit of the Assembly and investors.

He called for more investors to partner the Assembly in that direction and pledged its commitment to facilitating the process to ensure handsome returns on their investments.

Mr Kwaku Asante-Boateng, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Akim South, applauded Mr Baah for constructing the toilet facility to help address a critical public need.

He said it took people with high sense of patriotism and selflessness to prioritise problems confronting the society and urged the people to maintain the facility properly.

He advised users to patronise it and desist from open defecation to ensure a hygienic environment at all times.

Nana Okyere Offei, the Krontinhene of Dampong, commended the Assembly and Mr Baah for the fruitful partnership, which is estimated to impact thousands of lives around the area.

He called for more private sector collaborations to improve the living conditions of the people and pledged the Palace’s readiness to release land for development projects in the community.
