Ashaiman Assembly undertakes cleanup exercise

The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly on Saturday organized a six-hour cleanup exercise to clean their offices and surroundings areas.

The exercise forms part of the National Sanitation Day.

 

The staff of the assembly was joined in the cleanup by Zoomlion, a sanitation company, the personnel of the Ghana Fire Service and members of the community to sweep, desilt choked gutters and weeded over-grown bushes.

 

Mr Ibrahim Baidoo, Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive in an address said the Assembly undertook the exercise to set the pace for other institutions and community members to follow, saying: “charity begins at home and that cleanliness is next to Godliness

 

He said since every first Saturday of the month had been declared a National Sanitation Day, the Assembly would continue to be part of the programme to ensure the environment is safe from diseases.

 

The MCE advised the citizenry to stop open defecation and throwing of solid waste into gutters while ensuring that they keep their surroundings tidy.

 

Mr Bright Ametepe, an accountant of the Assembly asked the people to emulate the example set by the workers by coming out to actively join in cleanup exercises.

 

Even as a physically challenged person I tried to participate in the exercise how much more able-bodied persons, so please endeavour to get yourselves involved he said, adding that filth kills.
