He said as the political head of the district, he is walking in the president’s vision, hence would not deviate from the ideologies of the Akuffo Addo led government, but advance the course of development which will be beneficial to all.

Mr. Agyekum made these statements when he embarked on a familiarization tour to some communities in the district to formerly introduce himself to the chiefs and citizens as well as sort their views on the challenges confronting them.

He again called on citizens to demand accountability from duty bearers who have been held in trust for them. He held that, he would neither play politics nor propaganda with problems in the district.

The DCE admitted that the challenges facing the district are numerous with limited available funds but as a leader he is poised to face them with solutions rather than complains.

He mentioned  that, sadly, a report done by the Auditor’s General with Integrated Social Development Center (ISODEC) to assess all the 30 district in the Ashanti region in the areas of project initiation, procurement/contracting, project execution, project benefit and sanitation, revealed that Kumawu placed 27th, an abysmal performance that needed urgent attention.

The assembly has thus reacted promptly by signing a preliminary agreement with a Chinese company on sanitation to collect about 20,000 metric tons of waste daily for recycling into fertilizer. This, he believed would not only clear the district of filth but create employment for the youth.

Again on the issue of post-harvest losses which is one of the problems facing farmers, he stated that the assembly has signed an agreement with Mercy’s Consult - a Ghanaian investor to construct a factory in Kumawu that will reprocess cassava and peanut to flour, ethanol and starch, for onward exportation and marketing.

He noted that Plans are far advanced for communities to benefit from the one million dollars to every constituency policy by the government to tackle critical priority areas.

Hon. Agyekum hinted that the restoration of the trainee nurses/teachers allowances as well as the free SHS/Technical schools policy promised by the NPP government has seen the light of the day benefiting thousands of students in the ongoing 2016/2017 admissions. The programme will afford day students to enjoy one hot meal a day.

Interacting with the citizens at a durbar, they outlined some of their challenges, notably issues of sanitation, education, health, poor road networks connecting to farms and inadequate market for produce which results in post-harvest losses, inclusion in the school feeding programme, extension of electricity to neighboring towns, extension of water among others.

The chiefs advised the DCE to be fair and firm, work towards developing the district for posterity to benefit. They affirmed their support for him to succeed in the good of the district.

Communities visited include; Kumawu, Bodomase, Abotanso, Aninangya, Dadease, Oyoko, Temante, Besoro, Asekyerewa, Akrofoso and Pepiase.
