Two PIAC members, Dr. Steve Manteaw and Dr. Nyarko Otoo educated participants on PIAC’s role in the management of petroleum revenue and how they represent the citizens’ interest on such issues.

The presentation highlighted on the distribution of petroleum revenues from 2011-2016. It also projected how the citizen’s oil money was spent or have been used by the government for its projects and programmes.

Participants observed during open discussions that Petroleum Revenues had been used to tackle too many national problems at the same time and that had weakened the potential impacts of oil revenues on the social-economic development of Ghanaians. They also observed that the petroleum revenue that had been allocated the agricultural sector was too small.

The PIAC said they had made those concerns known to the government through its annual and semi-annual reports and that they believed that there ought to be properly defined guidelines on the selection of priority areas.

The Committee took advantage of its presence in the Municipality to inspect some petroleum revenues funded projects in the Municipality like the Rehabilitation of the Anyinasu-Sekyedumase Road under the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Highway Authority.

At the meeting was the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Salisu Bamba, the Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, the Kontihene of the Ejura Traditional Council, Nana Odiasempa Antwi I with his entourage, Assembly Members and Staff and some members of the general public.
