The Committee, chaired by the Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Ebenezer Amoah is expected to ensure that children were treated with the utmost care, and in an environment free from abuse, violence, neglect and exploitation through case management and integrated social services.

Addressing participants in his welcome address, Mr. Amoah lamented the bad state and plight of children lately with no parental control, guidance and lack of mentorship. "Gone are the days when parents used to show love and care to their children. Regrettably, these days children are seen loitering and misbehaving instead of being in school or helping their parents", he fumed.

He identified lack of child maintenance, broken homes, teenage pregnancy and peer pressure as some of the causes of youth indiscipline in the society and called for concerted efforts in tackling it.

He therefore tasked the committee to fashion, put and design innovative measures to tackle the menace and turn the youth into productive resources for the nation's development. Mr. Amoah also tasked the committee to team up and collaborate with stakeholders to investigate and report cases of abuse to the relevant institutions for redress.

In a presentation on the activities of the committee, Mr. Michael Osei Oduro from the Department of Integrated Social Services (ISS) outlined achievements and challenges confronting the committee in the execution of the mandate.

He emphasised the need for the committee to collaborate with stakeholders in identifying and addressing child protection issues in the region. “I'm happy to announce that with your collaboration, most of the child abuse cases and the perpetrators have been brought to book ,” he said.

Head of the Department of Children under the Ministry of Gender Children Social Protection, Dorothy Tetteh outlined projects and programmes being implemented to train and equip parents in child upbringing and maintenance.

She was hopeful that the expertise of committee members would be brought to bear to help in addressing the rising child abuse cases in the region.
