Presenting the furniture, Mr. Simon Kwaku Tetteh, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, said that most of the furniture concerns had been addressed in most schools.
He noted that when students did not have desks, it had a significant impact on teaching.
He said that the assembly had noticed the furniture shortfalls in schools in the municipality, and that the desks were being provided to students so they could feel comfortable throughout teaching and learning hours.
Mr. Samuel Kwesi Tettey, the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, said that the distribution of furniture was timely because some schools were facing difficulties in terms of furniture.
He mentioned that the distribution would pave the way to provide support for those who are facing severe challenges in terms of furniture in schools.
“These desks will solve the problem to some extent, and we have been promised that more will be added to help bridge the furniture gaps” he noted.
He said there were schools where you would find two students on mono desks and three or more on dual desks.
He urged head teachers and tutors at various schools to ensure that the furniture was well maintained.
Mr. John Djabanor, Head Teacher of Odumase Krobo Presby JHS, stated that the distribution of desks was invaluable because asking parents to provide tables and chairs had always been a big challenge.
He said the desks had come at the right time to alleviate myriad of the issues facing the education sector. He added some students even sit on benches, and these desks will help alleviate the issues that many schools in the municipality are experiencing.
