Describing agriculture as the backbone of the district’s economy and a critical pillar of national development, Mr. Mornyuie noted that Central Tongu continued to lead the Volta Region in rice production and ranked among the top three districts nationwide in livestock capacity.

“This engagement was both insightful and forward-looking,” the DCE stated. “We explored practical strategies to enhance productivity, improve farmer support systems, and maximize the potential of our fertile lands and industrious farming communities.”

He lauded the department’s ongoing efforts and emphasized the need for sustained collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure long-term food security and economic resilience within the district.

Mr. Gokah Emmanuel, Acting Head of the Agriculture Department, reaffirmed the staff’s dedication to advancing agriculture in the district.

However, he expressed concern over persistent challenges facing the department, particularly the shortage of agricultural extension officers and inadequate logistics to support field operations.

Mr. Gokah appealed to the District Chief Executive to urgently address these constraints to enable the department to function more effectively and reach a broader base of farmers.
