Through this the District is strengthening its social protection network to safeguard the most vulnerable - girls, women, the disabled, and the mentally challenged.
The key players of these programs includes Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation (NADEF) which is driving community-focused safeguarding initiatives and Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) with cash transfers reaching 890 beneficiary households; expansion planned to reach more families
Among others are Education and nutrition supports and Agricultural and Welfare Supports through the Capitation Grant, School feeding programme and free fertilizer and seeds; Free NHIS for indigents and Persons with Disability respectively.
For the communities involved, direct cash to vulnerable households through LEAP helps bridge immediate needs and break the poverty cycle leading to poverty reduction and resilience.
Targeted supports for girls, women, and persons with disability promote equity and participation means inclusive development for the people concerned.
This may also lead to uplift in health and education with programmes such as free NHIS for indigents, school feeding, and capitation grants bolster schooling and health outcomes
Though these opportunities, LEAP has reached hundreds households, more remain uncovered; expansion calls for sustained funding and streamlined targeting with the need for strong governance to track impact, ensure timely payments, and prevent leakage and for proper monitoring and transparency
