He said the Assembly has identified many challenges being faced by the sector in the district and is leaving no stone unturned to solve all of them.

Mr. Woode made this known when he toured the Adamso Circuit in the district to introduce the newly posted District Director of Education, Mr. George Adu Abrokwah to the head-teachers and teachers in the circuit and also to have at first-hand some of the challenges being faced by the schools. The exercise was also to mark the ‘My First Day at School’ exercise which is marked at the beginning of every academic year in schools in the country to usher in first comers to school.

The DCE revealed that he is optimistic that very soon six more schools in the district will benefit from the Free School Feeding Programme (FSFP) which has seen an improvement. He said already, there are 35 public schools in the district and only nine of them are beneficiaries.

He also lamented on the low rate of teacher to pupil ratio in the district. He said some of the schools have as low as four teachers in a school, thus headteachers have to combine two or more classes for teachers to teach all pupils. He was optimistic that the posting of the new Director will address some of these challenges since he is going to collaborate with the Education Directorate for effective performance.

Mr Woode also added that parents should also play there part to ensure that the efforts being put in by the NPP government and the Assembly do not go waste. They should always ensure that they provide the basic needs of their children and also be punctual at schools when they are invited for discussions by school authorities.

For his part the district Director of Education, Mr. George Adu Abrokwah was thankful to the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Stephen Asante and the DCE for their warm reception since his posting to the district.

He also applauded the various headmasters and teachers of the schools for their commitment to dedication and hard work despite the hard and difficult conditions they find themselves in.

He assured them that he has identified a couple of challenges and he will liaise with the Assembly to ensure that those challenges are solved to improve teaching and learning in schools.

Mr. Abrokwah again appealed to teachers to play their part in the newly introduced curriculum for basic schools, to achieve the ultimate aim of the government in the sector, calling on all stakeholders to come on board.

Some of the schools visited included Adomnyame D/A Basic School, Kubi D/A Primary School, Manukrom D/A Primary School, Ampunyase Nkwanta D/A Primary School and Adamso D/A Primary School.
