He said aside creating an alternative route for motorists on the Accra – Koasoa road, within the SCC enclave, there is no public school forcing children to travel to Old Weija on daily basis to school using the main road from SCC to Oblogo then to Weija or they use canoe to cross the river which poses risks to them.
As such the construction of the bridge at Dam site is also to ensure easy access to the schools.
The project which included the constructions of a major bridge has stalled for some time following issues with demolishing of some properties to give way for the project to complete.
The Municipal Engineer, Daniel Sowah said the project became necessary following the growing traffic congestion on the main Accra- Kasoa road; and that when completed, in the event of some difficulties and blockage on the main road, drivers can use the bypass to get to town.
He said the completion of the project has been delayed because there has been some encroachment on the bank of the river and people’s houses are actually on the construction site, hence there is a need to demolish those houses.
“But you cannot just come in and just demolish their buildings, so we’re doing the consultations and we’re just at the point of removing those structures for the project to continue.
He said this Monday, June 3, 2024 would be the final meeting with the property owners, before the demolishing is carried out for the project to continue.
He also disclosed that the completion of the road would also lead to the widening of the inner roads that are currently narrow to ensure they can accommodate more cars.
