Girl-child empowerment is of a great essence - Djanman Assemblywoman

Augustina Asantewaa Asiedu, the Assemblywoman of Djanman Electoral Area in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region said her passion to help break the status quo has compelled her to periodically organize engagements to educate the girl child in the community on social vices, the importance of education, acquiring skills in order not to be a burden in their families.

This, she does in collaboration with religious bodies, Social Workers among other relevant bodies.Asantewaa Asiedu who serves on two committees namely; Women and Children, and Health, occasionally organizes free health screening to check the well-being of the community. This has conscientise the community about the need for regular medical checkups.

Through the support of the Member of Parliament, Tina Naa Ayele Mensah, 65 girls have been enrolled into the nursing training college soon to be graduated. ‘’As I speak there has been submission of names of applicants waiting for their result to be enrolled with the conviction that I will be of help when consulted’’ she noted.

Being the chairperson of Women and Children of the Assembly, a lot of people within the municipality can attest to the fact that Social Welfare is up to task, she added.

She called for a collective effort on sensitization on health since health is wealth, and cited an example of one having an underlying medical health condition unknowingly that can trigger death but if you are aware of your health status you’ll certainly be on guard. He advised the health workers to be accommodative with patients whenever they visit their facility and also move into the community and educate the public on the importance of checkups.

Asantewaa Asiedu who is vying for the second time is urging all the electorates to take into consideration all her good deeds and how she has touched lives and vote massively for her.

She again urged all aspirants to conduct a clean campaign devoid of insult and backbiting in the upcoming District Level Election comes 19th December, 2023. She called for the inclusion of more women in the next governance to accelerate development.
