World Toilet Day held at Gomaoa Takyiam

The District Chief Executive of Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm has called on residents Gomoa Takyiam, a farming community in the area to desist from open defecation and ensure the construction household latrines to help eliminate the challenge.

He was speaking at an event to commemorate this year’s World Toilet Day celebration.

In his keynote address, Mr Darko Quarm gave a brief history about the celebration of World Toilet Day and emphasized the need to keep our surroundings very neat and clean, adding that open defecation in our environment should be a thing of the past.

He further emphasized that every household should have a toilet. He indicated that in 2016, two communities namely Takyiam and Kofi Ahor were selected under a UNICEF Funded project to assist households to construct their own latrines.

The idea, he added is to courage all households to do same.


According to the DCE, the office is putting in place by-laws to sanction landlords who do not provide toilets in their houses. He also advised the gathering to wash their hands with soap anytime the visit the toilet.

The District Chief Executive also used the opportunity to educate the gathering on the upcoming referendum on December 17th 2019.
