Umi Meimuna Shaibu Abban, the National Coordinator of the National Women’s Wing of the Islamic Mission Secretariat (IMS), gave the advice when addressing the 27th Annual National Conference of the Wing held at Otaakrom in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.  
  
The three-day conference held between Thursday August 28 and Sunday August 31, 2025, was on the theme: “The role of a Muslim woman in nation building through commitment” and brought together Muslim women and girls as well as some Islamic scholars.  
  
It sought to build the capacity of Muslim women and girls to enable them to contribute positively to building better homes and society at large.  
  
Umi Abban said knowing one’s health condition helped prevent and manage life-threatening and non-communicable diseases, advising that “we should not wait until we are sick before we visit health facilities for medical checkups”.  
  
She said hepatitis ‘B’ breast and cervical cancers as well as hypertension were common nowadays because people did not give their health the required attention and urged Muslim men to also support and empower their wives economically.  
  
In a highlight, Umi Abban explained that the conference sought to inculcate the spirit of communalism in women and girls as well as propagate the teachings of Islam in shaping the lives of Muslims.
