This call was made by the Chief Farmer of Adansi Atwereboana when the Cocoa Health and Extension Division of the COCOBOD organized a public rally to educate them on best agronomic practices in the cocoa industry.

The Chief Farmer Mr. Joseph Kwao Dogbe speaking on behalf of the farmers said that government upon government have not paid serious attention to livestock farmers by giving them the necessary support as it is done to the crop and cocoa farmers.

He said that cocoa farmers are giving support in the form of pesticides, fertilizer and secured prices but this is not done to the livestock farmers. “We the livestock farmers give the necessary protein that helps all of us to repair our body tissues and help the brain to work well but we are not giving the necessary help we deserve, this is not fair”. The Chief Farmer said.

Some of the livestock farmers especially the poultry farmers were not happy that the government has not put in place measures to reduce the importation of poultry products into the country.

They said that due to the frequent importation of poultry products, they find it difficult to get ready market for their products; they called on the government to do something about the situation to avoid the collapse of the poultry industry in the country.

The government can support as with subsidized food concentrates for our animals and help us to secure affordable credits from the financial institutions to enable us to expand our farms. The farmers appealed to the government.

In his final address the Chief Farmer appealed to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Hon. George Oduro who is also the Member of Parliament for the area to help the livestock farmers to get some support from the government.

Responding to the call from the livestock farmers the District Director of Ministry of Food and Agriculture Mr. Obrien Nyarko said that he will deliver their appeal to the appropriate quarters for the necessary action to be taking.
