Pusiga: Gender Ministry launches Household Registry
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed joined the Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Madam Otiko Afisah Djaba to launch the Ghana National Household Register Data Collection exercise at Pusiga District in the Upper East Region.

Speaking at the programme, the Project Coordinator, Mr Daniel Quarshie, threw more light on the concept by explaining that, Ghana National Household Register (GNHR) data collection will help all households who are eligible to register, after registration, the households would be categorized as poor, non-poor or vulnerable.
GNHR is a unit of the Ministry of Gender Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) with the mandate to establish a single national household register, a data base of poor and vulnerable households.
The others, he said, were programmes targeting specific categories such as Persons with Disabilities, Girl child, Youth and Active Labour Market programmes, for example, the Labour Intensive Public Works (LIPW) and many more interventions. Mr Quarshie furthermore reiterated that, the registration would be designed to enable all Social Protection Programmes (SPPs) to use the database.
He noted again that, the SPPs expected to use the database, but not be limited to, cash transfer programme such as the LEAP, SPPs in Health, for example, the NHIS exempt Category and SPPs in Education, the School Feeding Programme.
The team used the occasion to declare Zero Tolerance on Female Genital Mutilation in the area.
Mr Salifu Saeed thanked the World Bank and MOGSP for this initiative. Notable personalities present were the Member of Parliament (MP) for Binduri Constituency Madam Ayamba Laadi Ayi, the deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Fuseini Adongo, the District Chief Executive Mr Zubeiru Adbulai and others.
