Mampong Assembly distributes 40,000 cashew seedlings to farmers

Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region led by Thomas Appiah Kubi, the Municipal Chief Executive has distributed 40,000 cashew seedlings to farmers for free to boost the government implementation of Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD).

The Assembly has already distributed cocoa seedlings to farmers for free and now cashew. Next is oil palm. This will help farmers to grow more cash crops to boost the country’s economy in years to come.

The occasion was held at Nkwanta in the Mampong Municipality where they did the nursery.

Mr. Appiah Kubi said the Assembly started the cashew project last year under the instruction from the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Collins Ntim.



The MCE used the occasion to advice farmers to take advantage and plant more cash crops which will benefit them in years to come, and charge the Agric Extension Officers to assist farmers in Planting the seedlings. "We will visit your farms to see to it that you are using the seedlings", the MCE said.

Nana Oppong Adade IV Bobinhene who chaired the durbar expressed appreciation to President Akufo Addo and MCE for such an initiative and again given the seedlings to farmers for free, adding it will help reduce poverty in the rural areas.



The Bobinhene later released 10 acres of land to the Assembly to build cashew factory to serve as ready market to farmers which will also encourage them to plant more. Nana Oppong Adade IV take the advantage and requested for construction of speed ramps by the Assembly at Nkwanta to reduce accident in the community.

Mr Emmanuel Baah who is in charge of crops at the MOFA in the Mampong Municipality demonstrated to farmers how to plant the cashew seedlings. He later advised them to take good care of it.



Some beneficiary farmers expressed appreciation to the government for such an initiative and dmade an appeal to the government to help them with chemicals to be use which will help increase production.
